A cemetery caretaker, who nightly does battle with zombies rising from the grave, falls instantly in love with, and becomes obsessed by, a beautiful young widow (and her two doppelgängers), but soon finds his life spiralling out of control, in Soavi’s strange, but hugely entertaining, existential rom-zom-com. Though the film is decidedly imperfect, its disquieting, dream-like tone, hugely unpredictable plotting, and oddly thoughtful subtext more than compensate for any of its rougher edges.
