The Cabin in the Woods

Drew Goddard | 2011 | ★★★½
Five college friends travel to a remote cabin for a weekend break, but find themselves besieged by the rotting corpses of its former owners, whilst a lab full of white coat-sporting technicians looks on, gently manipulating their waking nightmare – but to what end? Scream meets The Truman Show with the Scooby gang at The Evil Dead cabin. Goddard’s smartly written little film is perhaps not the genre second coming that some have hailed it as, with it cleverly recycling rather than innovating most of its ideas, and with it being more black comedy than horror. However, it is very neatly crafted and entertains throughout, often proving hilarious.
