In the company of a seemingly-destined-for-tragedy Albanian street kid, a terminally ill poet spends his last day wallowing in the memories of moments and episodes from his past, in Angelopoulos’s terribly sad yet achingly beautiful examination of a life coming to an end. Composed of long, slow, elegant pans, zooms, and tracking shots, the film quietly casts the viewer under its melancholically alluring spell. Tremendously affecting.
