Whilst AIDS slowly begins to take its toll in the background, the empty, hedonistic lives of a group of wealthy Los Angelenos intertwine in debauched detail, in Jordan’s haunting take on Brett Easton Ellis’s eviscerating 1980s-set novel. Though almost universally panned, the film proves a surprisingly powerful one, full of impotent rage and ghostly decadence, caught almost perfectly by a raft of remarkably well-pitched performances.
