Arachnophobia

Frank Marshall | 1990 | ★★★
The ever-charismatic Jeff Daniels plays an arachnophobic San Franciscan doctor who follows his dream of moving his young family to a small town to start up a new medical practice, but finds only a geriatric GP who has gone back on his decision to retire and a local populace that is slow to warm to him. However, he soon manages to put his problems into perspective, when an army of dangerously aggressive killer spiders starts killing off his new neighbours, in this well-crafted, slow-burn horror flick. The scene-stealing John Goodman’s expert comic performance is the pick of a raft of likable supporting turns, which give the beautifully paced work its disarmingly affable tone.
