Like Crazy

Drake Doremus | 2011 | ★★★½
Two students fall in love at a Los Angeles university. However, when she delays her return home to England after graduation, overstaying her student visa by several weeks in the process, she is subsequently denied re-entry to the US, putting the future of their budding relationship in doubt. Never the less, the strength of their bond proves sufficient enough for them to go to great lengths in order to be together again, despite the added complications of burgeoning careers and wandering eyes. Amiable performances, enigmatic characterisation, and tender photography combine to generally moving effect, in Doremus’s bitter-sweet romantic drama, doing much to make up for the film’s not always entirely convincing plotting.
