Tatiesque humour, jaw-dropping choreography, transporting sound design, and alluringly unhurried pacing combine to quite sublime effect, in Frammartino’s near-enough dialogue-free spiritual drama, which depicts the final days of a lonely, ailing goatherd, the first days of a new born goat (which becomes separated from its herd), and the ritual demise of a large tree under which they both took comfort and shelter.
